Biography of the Artist Brigitta Maria Magdalena Mahr

Brigitta Maria Magdalena Mahr, aged 75, discovered painting at the age of 67 – a creative awakening sparked by a period of burnout. Until then, her professional path had followed entirely different directions.

Career

For many years, Brigitta Mahr worked in glaucoma research before completing a multi-year training as a yoga teacher. Three decades ago, she founded a company specializing in seminar and congress management, through which she organized numerous international conferences focused on conflict and peace management.
In 2003, she initiated the founding of the NGO Friendship Across Borders – FAB e.V., dedicated to fostering dialogue and understanding between Germans, Jewish Israelis, and Palestinians. Under her leadership, the organization evolved into a vibrant platform for intercultural exchange. After twelve intense years, however, the exhaustion from this demanding work marked a turning point – one that ultimately led her to the world of art.
Since 2017,Brigitta Mahr has participated in ongoing seminars and workshops at the European Academy of Fine Arts in Trier (EKA). In 2024, she enrolled as a student in the Academy’s “Painting” program, which she is expected to complete with a diploma in 2027.

Artistic Focus

At the center of Brigitta Maria Magdalena’s artistic work stands the image of the woman – and the question of the nature and power of the feminine. Her creations are inspired by the archetypes of C. G. Jung, in particular the symbols of the “Great Mother” and the dynamic interplay between Anima and Animus. These themes find expression in the artist’s acrylic paintings, mixed-media works, and collages. At the same time, a distinct fascination with mathematical structures runs through her work, reflected especially in her drawings and black-and-white compositions.
