Brigitta Maria Magdalena Mahr

… is a freelance artist. She only began painting at the late age of 68.

Her engagement with painting, colors, and, above all, the opportunity to express herself creatively helped her overcome a deep personal crisis. As the founding, years of development, and demanding management of the Middle East peace project “FAB-Friendship Across Border e.V.”, an intensive reconciliation project with Jewish Israelis, Palestinians, and Germans, had led her to burnout. The discovery of painting helped her regain strength and find new joy in life.

Since October 2024, the artist has been enrolled in the painting program at the European Academy of Fine Arts in Trier. She will graduate with a diploma.
Since November 2024, Brigitta has rented a small studio and gallery at Saalgasse 5 in Würzburg. There, by appointment (see contact details), you can visit the artist, talk about art, enjoy a cup of coffee, and view her paintings in the original.

Brigitta primarily paints with acrylics. She also creates collages. She uses different kinds of materials such as paper, feathers, sand, earth, coffee, various food ingredients, as well as melted wax and other fabrics of varying quality. The artist is particularly inspired by the colors themselves, by their “tone” of brightness, darkness, radiance, and consistency, as well as by the atmosphere and light created while painting. As a project, she is concerned with the theme of “womanhood,” women in their very diverse and socially influential roles. The themes of “aging and death,” as well as “war and destruction,” have also become the focus of her artistic work in recent years.

Patterns, forms, or entire stories emerge, often revealing their meaning only after a work is completed.
